The silence that can be felt

 ***

The Quiet of Trees

The trees listen, unmoved and all
present

as orioles and sunbirds
court and duel

songs and jungle
rooster crows
a spurring morning
alarm

crickets choir
in the undergrowth

a mother boar scours the grounds
with her young ones
for worm

or ripe fruit lost

to the grips of monkeys
play-chasing above
on shaky branches.

The trees listen, unmoved and all
present

a monsoon storm is coming:
bloated grey clouds
bringing drums and crackers.

Whipping sea winds
rip through the forest --
stir, shake and push,
snapping weak wood.

                         Let fall

warm drops of rain,
and pour forth rivers!

The birds
      are hushed now.

The trees listen, sway in the storm and all
present.

Ah, trees one of my favorite subjects both to celebrate and defend from those who forget their the most stable and staple of life.

Thanks ravenblack for announcing once again to us inappriciative animals their importance.

Wonderfully versed.

"they're" not their. Sorry my spanish fingers come out unwittingly sometimes.

I don't understand what your comment is referring to. I think you are wrong if you are telling me

"bringing their own
crackers and drums."

is supposed to be "they're". That doesn't make sense.

Thanks for visiting.

Hello Gayle. :) Yes, I so enjoy taking a walk in this rainforest reserve, just to enjoy the natural sounds and find "quiet" again.

There is no place better than nature to find that inner balance again. You've made even the monsoon sound delightful. I love all of the references to the animals in this. The mother boar with her nose to the ground, cricket, rooster, birds and then the warm rains begin.
I was there. Beautiful write.

The monsoon doesn't hit us very hard in Singapore might be why. Thanks for coming by, Daydreamer. :)

this is fantastic Raven. I love the way you brought this to life for the reader, the sights, the feel are all easily seen and felt. superbly done.

Very evocative, the repetition of unmoved and all present to the trees listen, sway and all present brought to mind why I would be a terrible tree. I am not enlightened enough to be immobile and all present. I am too like the monkey running around :). You build beautiful worlds in your work full of natural and philosophical wonder. I always enjoy visiting them.

Fred: thanks. I appreciate your visit and your words.

Anna: :D! I reckon you have lots more fun.

I go to these places and experience the harmony of it all. I'm often agitated in my rather messy routine work-orientated life, I find it helps to go a natural one and learn how nature lets everything be.

love the idea of the trees listening to all that's going on around them...and lots going on...love all the sounds and vibrant nature and the trees as calm pools..

i like the contrast of the trees quietly listening, to the varied sounds of the inhabitants of the forest. seems like the trees are very wise. :)

Ravenblack said...

They do seem so. Thanks dsnake! :)

@Raven: I would lose my sanity. I can't imagine even living in a city without trees.

@Daydreamer: It was a pleasure to read. :)

You create a wonderful sense of place. Like you, I couldn't stand not living in a place blessed with nature. Nice use of sound in this.
