A totem of sorts

***

Stone Bird

relic
on the sand

filled playground
ultramarine
blue mosaic
tiles covered

pelican profile
with a single

eye
watch
over

see-saw

and swings
the widest grin

rain or shine
I remember

climbing
into that smile

settling
into a daydream.

*A playground "Stone Bird"

was so pleased to see you on the blog-roll, showing a new poem. The title is great, totems are used differently depending on the culture of the holder. In native american tribal traditions a totem often represents identity of place, person or thing. In magic, a totem can be used to capture identity, as well as use in rites…so much more, anyhow, a really cool title, fits well in different ways. Love the way this piece is written, flowing easily, almost as if each line inspired the creation of the next. Relic/on the sand//filled playground/ultramarine… lovely progression. and the ending was perfect. Anyway, a good read, thanks.

Thanks Fred, appreciated your reading. :)

Never really appreciated this playground object until I realise the last one (the one the picture) might not be standing there for much longer. I think I will forever associated this blue stone bird with the joy of visiting a playground. :) So, I guess I thought it might qualify as a totem.

Wonderful to bring back happy memories and just get lost in them at times. Very nice verse.

My favorite line, definitely, "climbing into the smile." Very good details that allowed me to be there with you.

great poem! i really like that "climbing into that smile". :)

a whole generation grew up in those playgrounds. i remembered there were stone dragons too, but all these gave way to plastic & rubber structures. (much safer)

I think sandy playgrounds are thing of the past all together. I do agree rubber or foam grounds are cleaner. Really too bad though. :)
