Waking

***

All that noise

Sunday morning, awaking before the heat,

before the first six o'clock bus rolls by,

before the whistle of boiling kettles,
and clatter of pot covers in neighboring kitchens,

lie in the silence

                that rests still across the land;

rest in the quiet

of trees remembering the swamp
and the song of crickets in the reeds
                          accompanying a new river.

Listen:
           how almost all together

the reverberating vibrations
of our collective machinery

                knOCk BanG
           ruMble
                       hum
                                    ROar

the sum of our tremors
                     penetrating bones and stones

break a sunrise.

Raven. Love the sensory here. Primarily the auditory, but even so, almost all of your choices can carry numerous sensorial uses. Love how the visual elements come to be and the tactile really impressed me. Strong write. Excellent read. Thanks

Isn't it a wonderful time, that you get to have the 'almost' silence before the rest of the world awakens to continue making the everyday noises. I like to get up at least an hour before my teen so that I get that 'peace' before the chaos of day begins.
Really enjoyed this walk with you and, thank you so much for such a lovely comment on my post today.
Thankfully, was never in an abusive relationship (as an adult) but, I feel so for women, and sometimes men, who are. I appreciate your taking time to really comment. :)

Thanks Fred and Daydreamer.

Playing with sound, which is primarily what I notice.

I tend to wake before dawn, and I do enjoy that most quiet hour before the city comes to life. :)

Daydreamer: always a pleasure to read your poems. That was a really good one. I do feel strongly about this subject as well.

Hi Brian, thanks for your visit. It does get all noisy very quickly once alarm clocks go off. The weekends just a bit more delayed. :D

Some noise more distracting than others depending on geography or demography but these awakening noises disappear all too soon.

Gracias mi amigo for this noise of awareness

Yes. Thank you, Nene. :)

Pretty quiet here in my neighborhood...loud noises can really make me jumpy. Mostly it's peaceful...except for the clatter going on in my head! :)

My neighborhood, well we are all too close together for any quiet. :D

This is just lovely - the genuine sounds of the urban scene, and then the sounds of the more intimate body's scene - very well done - the hand of silence staying over the land is an especially cool phrase - kind of a reversal here - really interesting. k.
