What it takes to take care of baby

(Snapshot)

From within,
from behind

unshackled front gates and fireproof front door,

a baby's cries break
the hourglass of dawn;

a woman stands facing the door
             she stands in pajamas
bare foot on the welcome mat
       as if waiting
  for herself

                                staring at the cracks
                                on the concrete floor

to be

the smell of dew, a touch
                     of lingering night breeze
                     leaving before the sun
                     takes to the skies fully

calm

                    the footsteps
                    of neighbors
                    as they prepare breakfast

                                          sounds like a cat fight
                                        or something

or just the demands of a newborn baby
          to mother.

No, I have no idea what it takes to take care of a newborn, or how to raise children as they make demands even before they know words. Happy Mother's Day to mothers celebrating this weekend.

love all the little textures in this...and i think you do honor mothers in it...it is not easy raising kids at all...but it is def a joy....as if waiting for herself...that is a key line for me as it is easy to get lost in raising kids too...

Thanks for the visit and comment, Brian. I saw this woman standing outside her door and just standing there, as if she needed a break.

I love this one. You paint a very descriptive scene, incorporating the senses and some reflection. Quite a lot packed in here, very well done Raven. Thanks

You would never know that you were unfamiliar with new borns. This is a perfect capture.

Thanks Fred and Raven.

Just worked on what I saw. :)

Being a mother is the hardest job in the world. It's 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and no time off for good behaviour. I would imagine she needed a break.
Lovely, gentle piece Raven. :)

though you may have "no idea what it takes to take care of a newborn", i think this piece is an honest tribute to all mothers. the job is mundane, even frustrating at times, but it is a job where much attention and care is given into it. i loved your keen observations of life in our heartlands. what you described can be any ordinary mother who just want to have a breather, or to be alone for a while.

This swept me away, and I loved the ending!

Breaking the hourglass of dawn -- splendid image in an overall splendid poem.
