The Moon and I

****

Sunset Sky Watching

I saw the moon watch the sun go down.

   I and the moon
   watch the sun

   go

through the layers of deep orange
                            and crimson, winking

                                 as it takes leave;
                             sky blushes pink
                                             settling
                                  to royal purple, and

  down

as the dark blue tide spreads across the dome above,
as shadows lengthen until they are
                          no more and all,

these eyes stay fixed on the horizon

  just the moon
  and I.

wow, this is a "i wished i had written this" type of poem. the way you described the sunset is as though i am watching you painting a canvas.

and you know, the left lines are a complete poem by itself. it's lovely, with a sense of peace and solitude. solitude doesn't meant loneliness, sometimes we just need the space.

Very neat Raven. I love the way you structured this. As it's really two separate poems collaborating as one, yet can easily hold their own by themselves. The reversal from the I and the moon to the moon and I is quite significant. And the imagery in the second poem is outstanding. Thanks

dsnake, K and Fred: Thanks for the likes and comments!

I could always use more solitude. I don't know if it's good a thing to prefer it. Just me, just the sun or the moon, just the crickets and the trees. I really prefer it. :D

Intimacy was the prompt for a haiku one day last week. This poem, these words and sentiment truly fit the bill. A shout out to you Ravenblack! I am always so glad to see you.

Ravenblack ... I never do this to anyone (well completely rarely) but as I was reading this the only reply I could make was totally selfish. I think that you will chuckle (the photo - and your poem).
