NaPoWriMo #29: Weeding

Weeds

Roots reaching deep, deeper;

sprout from seeds
dropped in by a bird
or rode in on the wind

they choke the green sprouts
you've worked so hard to cultivate

Weeds are green, greener

some bloom little flowers;
yellow, purple and white
dot the crisscross creepers
in the field

some produce fruit
sweet berry-like, or bright bitter
to bite

pulled them out, we'll
let them rot in compose heaps

Weeds growing wild, wilder,

a weed is only a weed
in a land of tamed crops.

Not very happy with this. I have a terrible headache because it's so hot today. Global warming -- I'm feeling it if that is what it is.

Wasn't a bad one, I would rather be the weed then be some tamed crop, as long as I didn't get thrown in the compose heap..haha

this is a decent work, in my opinion. very readable.
you are right, there is still colour (beauty?) in their nondescript lives. and they will probably outlive a lot of other plants.

hope you're feeling better. i am still running with the flu. :)

Raven, this is good. I get that way all the time, when you write something and have something else preoccupying the mind, in here you have a headache, so I think these other influences taint our own opinions. Anyhow, I enjoyed the piece, especially the last lines and the some with small flowers and some of them have fruit stanzas, really like how those two read. Thanks

I'm sorry to hear about your headache and especially your lost wallet, how stressful. I hope this finds you feeling better. Only one day left for NaPoWriMo, you can do it!

Thanks Anna. I'm better in terms of mood. Good news came after lunch that my wallet has been found. Of course the cash is gone, but well at least I get my ID card back. That's the only thing I was concern about.

The April challenge is almost over and I hope you are feeling better.

Weeds are weeds to me. Sometimes they look beautiful just growing about themselves. But not beside my flowers :-)

Thanks Grace.

Well, it is a bit back ... so I surely hope that the headache is long gone. Yes, global warming ... what we are doing is grotesque. But do not be unhappy with this poem ... for it is about weeds ... and thus seems appropriate ... good.

The headache is gone but it does come especially when the weather is very hot and humid. Thanks for your comment on this one, Raven. :)
